The Unites States is facing a shortage of natural gas. Over the past decade, the price of natural gas has tripled, affecting U.S. industrial production and contributing to the loss of more than $50 billion in business to overseas operations. WRI is developing a gasification technology for making low-cost, pipeline-quality substitute natural gas (SNG) from coal.

The conversion process uses well-established counter-current cyclonic methods in a unique sequence that causes activated carbon char to react with synthesis gas, both of which are derived from the coal feedstock. This innovative method differs substantially from historic methalation or hydrogasification processes because it does not require pure oxygen to produce high-quality synthesis gas.

WRI's SNG technology is clean-burning and could be distributed through existing pipeline systems. WRI welcomes inquiries for further development and demonstration.
